Do you remember the story of Aladdin and his enchanted lamp? One day Aladdin discovered an amazing lamp that had a genie inside who would grant the owner of the lamp any wishes for wealth, fame, power, love, beauty, and more. Maybe you too have fantasized about how wonderful it would be to have such a magical lamp? What you are about to discover is that there really is a powerful genie at your disposal. All you need to do, like Aladdin, is discover it and learn how to use it.
Your Inner Genie
Perhaps it’s no coincidence that the word “genie” is related to the Latin word for “genius.” Each and every person is born with an inner genius that, like a magical genie, can release inner forces enabling us to accomplish far more than we ever believed possible, including weight loss, financial success, and happiness in relationships. The key is knowing how to tap into your own inner genius.
Your Source of Reality
You have probably heard the expression, “You are what you think.” However, this premise does not merely refer to what you think consciously, but also to your inner thoughts and beliefs. The subconscious mind is actually the force that is in control of all aspects of your life—probably far more than you realize. Whether you are rich or poor, happy or sad, bored or fulfilled, loved or unloved, can all be traced to your inner or subconscious belief system. In other words, you may want to be healthy, wealthy, and wise, yet, you may be unaware that deep inside your subconscious is the belief that you do not deserve success, good health, or loving relationships. Each person grows up with some ideas about him or herself that are negative, inaccurate, or outdated. Over the years, these self-limiting ideas persist (stored mostly in the subconscious) and continue to create more negative self-beliefs and experiences.
"The Power to Move the World!"
As you probably know, your mind consists of two different levels of activity: the conscious and the subconscious. Your conscious mind is the logical, reasoning portion of your mind with which you are most familiar. It uses the five senses to gather information that enables you to learn about your physical environment. As important as your conscious thought processes and actions may seem, however, you are, to a very great extent, guided by a much deeper level of mental activity – your subconscious mind.
Over 90 percent of your mental activity is subconscious – yet its work is done without you even being aware of it. It is the builder and sustainer of your body, the seat of your knowledge, emotions, and habits, and it has a powerful effect on the events that take place in your life. In fact, William James, the father of American psychology, said, “The power to move the world is in the subconscious mind.” What he meant is that it is not what is outside of us that really determines what happens in our lives – how prosperous we are, whether we are happy or not, our health, and yes, even our physical appearance, including weight – it is all what is on the inside that determines out lives.
What You Experience Is What’s in Your Subconscious Mind
Many people wonder why their subconscious accepts and retains self-defeating, negative beliefs in the first place. Basically, your innermost beliefs stem from your personal experiences, the repeated statements of other significant people in your life, and your own habitual thinking about yourself and the events in your life, beginning at an early age and continuing on throughout life.
For example, if you were repeatedly told as a child such things as, “You are mentally thick and slow. You're uncoordinated. You are naturally overweight. You’ll never amount to much,” your impressionable subconscious would likely accept these ideas without logical considerations. Chances are, it then went one step further, creating self-talk statements such as, “I am not very smart or talented. I can't loose weight. Why even bother to try?” This is how self-defeating beliefs are established, and because they are deeply rooted in your subconscious, they remain until you replace them.
Does all this mean you are helplessly at the mercy of your subconscious programming? Absolutely not! Old programs can be replaced by new positive thoughts, and it’s not as difficult as you might imagine to change your life. There are three components to effectively reach your subconscious mind and instill the changes you want.
First, enter a relaxed state by closing your eyes and taking a few deep breaths in through your nose and exhaling out through your mouth. Learning to relax is very important because when you are deeply relaxed, the subconscious is most open to change.
Second, utilize visualizations. Every accomplishment, every work of art, every worthwhile creation was once a clear image in someone’s mind. The mind doesn't distinguish between something real and something imagined. For this reason, when you utilize visualization it has much the same effect as actually doing an activity. The way to utilize visualization in this way is to visualize the outcomes you desire and see yourself having and living those experiences. Feel as if they are yours right now.
The third way to reach the subconscious is through the use of positive affirmations. Affirmations are positive, present tense statements which address a specific area in your life. Repetition of positive affirmations impresses them into your subconscious mind. Pick an affirmation that reflects what you desire to achieve and repeat it to yourself many times throughout the day. For example: "I easily shed excess weight." "I naturally feel energized and happy." "Prosperity and success are automatically attracted to me."
Practice these simple activities every day for ninety days, and you will be amazed at the results!
