Can Food Really Enhance Your Sex Life?
“The link between food and sex drive isn’t just wishful thinking” says Cynthia Sass, RD, author of S.A.S.S Yourself Slim. “Studies show that certain foods or nutrients do play a role in boosting libido and supporting a healthy sex life.”
This is a great little checklist that outlines 7 of the best everyday foods that can jump start and improve your sex life.
Avocados
Funny thing to start the article with but, the Aztecs actually referred to avocados as, well, testicles, because of their physical shape. But there is a scientific reason why avocados are considered an aphrodisiac, and that is because they are rich in unsaturated fats and low in saturated fat, making them good for your heart and your arteries. Obviously, anything you do or eat that keeps the heart healthy and helps keep blood flowing to all the right places, is a step in the right direction to better sex. In fact, studies show men with underlying heart disease are twice as likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction. So start loading up on the guacamole!
Almonds
Almonds are the sleeper of sex aids, almonds have a long history of its ability to increase passion, act as a sexual stimulant, and aid with fertility. Almonds are a lot like like asparagus, in that almonds are nutrient dense and rich in several trace minerals that are important for sexual health and reproduction, including zinc, selenium, and vitamin E. Although it hasn’t been determined why or how it helps enhance libido and sexual desire, results show without a doubt, that it works.
Strawberries
Well, just the color red alone is known to help bring the attraction, as outlined in a study done in 2008 which found that men find women sexier if they’re wearing red, as opposed to cooler colors such as green or blue. Add that to the actual strawberries which are an excellent source of folic acid, a B vitamin that helps defend against birth defects in women and, according to a University of California, Berkley study, may be tied to high sperm counts in men. These babies pull double duty on both sexes and if you add some chocolate to dip them in, I’d say you’re on your way to a “nice” night.
Seafood
More well know as an aphrodisiac are oysters which are eaten quite regularly despite their slippery and slimy texture. Other types of seafood are also very good for a healthy heart, especially oily fish, like wild salmon and herring also act as aphrodisiacs. But oysters are certainly one of the best sources of libido boosting zinc, and if you can’t handle the taste, try adding a drop of Tabasco, it masks the oyster taste and makes them very enjoyable.
Arugula
Arugula has been touted as an excellent arousal aid since the first century. But this leafy plant is better known for protecting your libido, as recent research shows that the trace minerals and antioxidants packed into dark, leafy greens are essential for our sexual health because they help block absorption of some of the environmental contaminants thought to negatively impact our libido. So that’s why David had the leaf…never mind.
Figs
Figs work to help our sex life in two ways, first these fruits have a long history of being a fertility booster, and are an excellent aphrodisiac because they are packed with both soluble and insoluble fiber, which is very important for a healthy heart. And secondly, figs are a high fiber food and it’s well know that high fiber foods help fill you up, helping you minimize your food intake. With this on the diet plan, it’s easier to achieve that sexy bottom or belly, or whatever your healthy weight loss look may be.
Citrus
All members of this tropical fruit family is extremely rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, and folic acid, all of which are essential for men’s reproductive health. But many people have a hard time figuring out how to get these little gems into your regular diet. Incorporating citrus into your meal can be as easy as a romantic salad that includes citrus, like mandarin oranges or pink grapefruit, or even using a dressing made with lemon and lime.
