But success of Ameo was not enough to wash the stains of Volkswagen image due to emission figures and therefore now once again the car maker is back in limelight with its upcoming SUV Tiguan which although is expected to make its debut in Indian car market in 2017, but has become the topic of hot discussion among car enthusiasts because of its endorsed performance and due to successful launch of Ameo.
With launch of Tigaun, the manufacturer will mark its presence in India in SUV segment in which it has not initiated its steps till date. It will brought through CBU route and is expected to be priced quite competitively.
Architecture
Developed on MQB-platform, the upcoming SUV will be about 60mm longer, 30mm wider and 33mm lower than compared to its outgoing version. According to reports company has also increased the wheelbase of SUV up-to 2681mm which means, it will offer spacious and comfort seating experience to passengers. It is also said that new Tiguan will be 50 kgs light weighted.
Engine
The India bound version of VW Tiguan will be empowered with a 2.0-litre TDI diesel mill which is capable for producing the power of 147 bhp and will have displacement capacity of about 1968cc. The transmission duties are reported to be offered with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. It is reported that in European car market the proposed SUV will be offered with TSI petrol mill with four power tunes of 123 bhp, 147 bhp, 177 bhp and 217 bhp followed by TDI engine and mated with 6-speed manual gearbox and of course 7-speed DSG automatic system.
Exteriors
On the exteriors it will carry more aggressive and dynamic appearance as compared to its global version. The front fascia will be customized with LED DRLs, sportier bumper integrated with air dams and square shaped fog lamps, panoramic sunroof, sloping roof with roof rails, 20 inch alloy wheels, and few more. On the rear it will be decorated with newly developed taillights with LED inserts, roof spoiler and large bumper.
Interiors
Inside the cabin, it will adorn features like 5-inch touchscreen display or even bigger touchscreen display with navigation system, mirror link system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Among other contemporary features it will also embellish safety features like pedestrian monitoring system, lane assist system, city emergency braking system, automatic post collision system as standard feature across all the trims.
The Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to be launched in India by the first quarter of 2017 with an expected price range of INR 25 - 30 Lac ex-showroom.
