“Get busy living or get busy dying” was what Tim Robbins’ character said in Shawshank Redemption. Those words really hit home. Many people feel, at one time or another in their life, like they are waiting; waiting for something to happen. It’s an unknown anticipation which creeps in over time. He/she is uncertain as to what they are anticipating; he/she only knows it’s something. It feels like the “lull before the storm.”
When we begin to feel this emotion it gets stronger and stronger. It nags at us until it drives us crazy. All the while we continue to live in a rut of doing the same thing day in and day out. We start our day the same, we interact with the same people, we perform the same duties, we come home have dinner, putter around the house then go to bed. We wake up the next day and do the same thing all over again. We are “getting busy dying.” Like my Mother said to me once “I feel like I am in God’s waiting room.”
Question is what causes this? The feeling comes from hopes and dreams or wishes and desires which are yet to manifest in our life. We are so bored in our life that something has got to happen!
You have goals. You have desires. You have ideas and a wish list of things you would like to do. Everyone’s is different, you do have one! Even if you said to me “I have no goals.” If you have or feel the “anticipation” then I guarantee you do.
What’s stopping you? What keeps you in this constant state of anticipation and boredom? You may have common feelings of fear, doubt, and uncertainty or are hoping for a miracle or for someone to give it to you? Perhaps you have placed it at the lower end of the priority scale because you are having a hard time finding the answers to make it happen? What ever is causing this feeling, is a “would like” rather than a “must have.” We wait for something to happen to us rather than go out and get it. It is time to do something about it.
If you would like to break free of this very frustrating anticipation feeling and “get busy living” you have to ask yourself some important questions.
“What is my desire?”
“What is it I want to have happen?”
“What’s stopping me and what can I do to change it?”
“Is it a top priority?” (if it isn’t then it takes much longer because you would procrastinate!)
“What am I going to do about it?!”
When we wait for something outside of our self to make it happen, we continue to stay busy dying, in other words, we merely exist, doing the same thing day in and day out. You can only take control of your life experiences when you make it a priority, ask yourself the important questions and take action to make it happen. It’s in you. It has always been in you! Start today and “Get busy Living!”
Keep smiling, believe in yourself and make it happen!
